Climbing Clan recognise anyone under the age of 18 years old as a child\n (The Children Act 1989), and therefore appropriate measures have been \nrevised and put in place to accept under 18s to the club. \u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe \nClimbing Clan recognise the importance of safety to vulnerable \nindividuals and therefore protective measures have been put in place.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe following measures are in accordance with the British Mountaineering Council (BMC).\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\u003cli\u003eUnder\n 18s are to be supervised and accompanied by a parent, guardian, or \nperson acting in loco parentis when taking part in any climbing activity\n and/or climbing weekend.\u003c/li\u003e\u003c/ul\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\u003cli\u003eUnder 18s are not to be left unsupervised/unaccompanied by their parent, guardian, or person acting in loco parentis.\u003c/li\u003e\u003c/ul\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\u003cli\u003eAll Climbing Clan members are not to be left alone with an unsupervised child. \u003c/li\u003e\u003c/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe\n Climbing Clan recognise that whilst the under 18 is accompanied by \ntheir parent, guardian, or person acting in loco parentis in any of the \nclub’s climbing and weekend events, the selected Leaders of the trip do \nnot have to be DBS checked. \u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFurthermore, best practice will be maintained at all times and safeguarding and child protection measures will follow in place.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePolicy Principles\u003c/strong\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003col\u003e\u003cli\u003eTo\n provide children and young people with appropriate safety and \nprotection whilst being accompanied by their parent, guardian, or person\n acting in loco parentis during an activity with The Climbing Clan.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eTo allow all club members to make informed and confident responses to specific child safeguarding and child protection issues.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eAll suspicions of child abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately. \u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eTo help and support all individuals involved in providing climbing trips for young people on behalf of The Climbing Clan.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eThat\n all children, regardless of their age, ethnicity, abilities, social \nbackground, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or political \npersuasion, have the right to live in a safe environment.\u003c/li\u003e\u003c/ol\u003e\n\n\n\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe\n activity of climbing is dangerous, with many risks involved, however \nThe Climbing Clan recognise the importance of making climbing accessible\n to under 18s. \u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo promote and provide an opportunity to \nparticipate in climbing, mountaineering and hill walking activities and \nto actively give non-climbers the opportunity to try climbing are some \nof the main objectives of The Climbing Clan.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo make climbing trips accessible and fun for under 18s, the club have outlined the following.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eClimbing Trips\u003c/strong\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003col\u003e\u003cli\u003eUnder\n 18s are only allowed to participate in climbing with the consent of \ntheir parent, guardian, or person acting in loco parentis.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eUnder\n 18s are only allowed on designated trips for under 18s when accompanied\n by a parent, guardian, or person acting in loco parentis. \u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eUnder 18s are not allowed, accompanied or not, on trips that have not been designated for under 18s.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eUnder\n 18s and a parent, guardian, or person acting in loco parentis are not \nallowed on climbing trips until both have read and understood the risks \ninvolved and whereby the parent, guardian, or person acting in loco \nparentis signs respected consent forms.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eClimbing Trips designated for under 18s should always have a Leader with suitable skills and awareness for the group.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eClimbing\n Trips designated for under 18s are where a climbing group consists of a\n Leader and under 18s supervised by their parent, guardian, or person \nacting in loco parentis.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eOn all trips, at all\n times, the under 18 is the responsibility of their retrospective \nparent, guardian, or person acting in loco parentis, whether at the \nclimbing venue or not.\u003c/li\u003e\u003c/ol\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Leaders of a climbing trip may be\n selected independently according to the nature and dynamic of the \ngroup. Leaders may partake in supervising their own child in an under 18\n specified trip. \u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNot being welcome on an under 18 designated trip is and should not be seen as any suggestion of negative character traits.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWeekend Events\u003c/strong\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003col\u003e\u003cli\u003eWeekend trips can be specially organised and designated as open to under 18s and run specifically with under 18s in mind. \u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eAccommodation should be appropriate and acceptable to under 18s and their parent, guardian, or person acting in loco parentis.\u003c/li\u003e\u003cli\u003eWeekend\n trips designated for under 18s should have a “weekend leader” \nresponsible for safeguarding, compliance and organising of climbing \nactivities.\u003c/li\u003e\u003c/ol\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSocial Events\u003c/strong\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUnder 18s \nmay be invited to age appropriate social events with permission and \nconsent of their parent, guardian, or person acting in loco parentis.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUnder\n 18s must be accompanied and supervised during the social event by their\n parent, guardian, or person acting in loco parentis.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eComplaint Procedures\u003c/strong\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe\n Climbing Clan understands that participants in any climbing activity, \nweekend event and/or social event organised by The Climbing Clan, should\n have the accessibility of marking a concern and/or complaint.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll\n complaints/concerns regarding the behaviour of Members should be \npresented and submitted in writing to the club’s Designated Safeguarding\n Officer (currently the Secretary). These could also be present to the \nPresident, Chair, or another member of the Exec Committee.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe \ncomplaint/concern will be dealt with following the club’s procedure for \nsuch matters.
